Who is the data controller

What we collect
- Essential: a short session identifier, used only for the site to work. Deleted when you close the browser.
- Optional, only after you accept: anonymous visit counts, so we know which papers are being read. Deleted after twelve months.
- Correspondence: if you write, we keep the exchange in an email archive while the matter is active, then delete.
What we do not do
We do not carry advertising, do not embed third-party trackers (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no advertising SDK, no fingerprinting), and do not share personal data with anyone.
Our first-party tag manager
The site serves a small measurement script from the same origin, published at /tag-manager.js. It is a first-party script; nothing is loaded from Google Tag Manager, Meta, or any advertising provider. Its purpose is to inform revisions of the working papers — that is, to help the author understand which sections are read, how readers reach a paper (country, referring domain, viewport), and the general shape of engagement on a page (scroll depth, dwell time, whether an outbound reference was followed).
The script runs only after you accept optional cookies in the banner. If you decline, it does not run.
The measurement is aggregate and anonymous. It is not tied to any personally-identifiable identifier, it is not merged with external data, and it is not shared with advertising or profiling providers. Aggregate counts are retained for twelve months and then deleted. This data supports revision planning and citation-response prioritisation only — not profiling, not cross-site tracking, and not resale.
Lawful basis (Art. 6 GDPR)
Essential processing is on the basis of legitimate interest in making the site work (6(1)(f)). Optional measurement is on the basis of your consent (6(1)(a)), chosen at the cookie banner and reversible via the cookie preferences link.
Your rights (Arts. 15–20 GDPR)
Access, correction, deletion, restriction and portability — write to privacy [at] elffeltour.com; we reply within thirty days.
